Overachieving Affordable MC Phono Stage

Its been a while since Rega dabbled in entry level moving coil phono stages. But Rega comes back with a bang with the new Fono MC preamp.

Having recently launched the new Ania moving coil cartridge, Rega has set its mind to perfectly pair this high performance entry level cartridge with a suitably overachieving phono stage. Fono MC is crafted to be that partner, giving users an ideal phono preamp that

matches Anias electrical characteristics. Housed in a sleek new case that also matches the look of the 2017 Brio amplifier, Fono MC makes a great shelf-mate. The sound of Fono MC is quiet, detailed, insightful, dynamic, and well-timed.

Fully Adjustable for Perfect Cartridge Compatibility

While Fono MC has the ideal settings for Rega moving coil cartridges, it is fully adjustable, ensuring that it plays very well with pretty much any other moving coil cartridge on the market. With two gain settings, two capacitance settings, and four resistance settings, Fono MC can be finely tailored to suit your cartridges needs and your listening tastes.

Output gain is 63.5dB or 69.5dB, with input loading resistance settings of 70 ohm, 100 ohm, 150 ohm, or 400 ohm. The input loading capacitance is 1000pF or 4300pF. Connectivity is provided by stereo single-ended RCA inputs and outputs.

Borrows Heavily from Pricey Aria Phono Stage

Borrowing heavily from its big brother Aria phono stage, the Fono MC uses low-noise, high-impedance FETs that minimize negative interactions from the cartridge. RIAA equalization is handled by MUSE op-amps, similar to those in the Brio amp. High-quality polypropylene capacitors are employed in the signal path for excellent linearity. The casework is aluminum for protective shielding of the sensitive internal circuits. Power is supplied by a 24 VAC outboard power supply, further minimizing negative interactions and noise.
