Title: an artist of the floating world
Author: Kazuo Ishiguro
Publisher: Vintage

Content introduction:

After the war, Japan was full of waste, and people were actively engaged in rebuilding the future. The painter Ono seemed idle, but there was an undercurrent in his later life. In order to create a good social relationship for the little girl to get married smoothly, he began to revisit his old friends, review the past, and let his memory go back to the period of Japanese imperialist rule. He frequently encountered contradictions and conflicts with the young generation in ideology and world outlook, confused and hesitated about the beliefs and achievements he once believed in and was proud of, and suffered from face-to-face and reflection, affirmation and denial. The work connects the characters and plots one by one in a ukiyo like way, and shows the destruction of war and Militarism on ordinary people and artists human nature without seeing the smoke of gunpowder.

About the author:

Kazuo Ishiguro, a Japanese born British novelist, was born in Nagasaki, Japan in 1954. In 1989, he won the Booker Prize, and together with Naipaul and Rushdie, he was known as the "three male immigrants in the British literary world". He was decorated as a literary Knight by the British royal family and awarded the order of Knight of French art and literature.
In 2017, Ishiguro won the Nobel Prize for literature. The reason given by the Swedish Academy is that "Ishiguros novel, with its great emotional power, has explored the abyss hidden under the illusion of our connection with the world."
Ishiguro is famous for his exquisite style. Almost every novel has been nominated or awarded. His works have been translated into 28 languages.
Although he has the dual cultural background of Japan and Britain, Ishiguro is one of the few Asian writers who do not take immigration or national identity as the theme of his novels. He is committed to writing a novel that can produce meaning for people living in any cultural background. Therefore, almost every Ishiguros novel is creating a new pattern, spanning the noble culture, modern China and Japan, and even the British biotechnology experiment in the late 1990s, which has repeatedly brought refreshing surprises to the readers.
Ishiguros published works are as follows: in 1982, a pale view of hills won the Winifred Holtby prize of the Royal Society of literature. In 1986, an artist of the floating world was nominated by the British and Irish Book Association for the Whitbread book of the year award and the Booker Prize. In 1989, the remains of the day won the British Booker award and was listed in the best-selling list of publisher weekly. In 1995, the unconsoled won the Cheltenham prize for literature and art. In 2000, when we are orphans was nominated for the Booker prize again. In 2005, never let me go was also shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the European novel award with Zui high world literature award. 2009 collection of short stories Nocturne. In 2015, the novel buried giant was launched ten years later, sweeping the book market again.
Kazuo Ishiguro is the 2017 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. His work has been translated into more than 40 languages. BothThe Remains of the Day andNever Let Me Go have sold more than 1 million copies, and both were adapted into highly acclaimed films.
