Shangshu, one of the "Five Classics" of Confucianism, was written about 3000 years ago during the Warring States period. It is an existing compilation of ancient Chinese historical documents. It lasted about 1500 years from the legendary era of Yao, Yu and Shun to the mid spring and Autumn period. It is arranged according to the dynasties. It is divided into Yu Shu, Xia Shu, Shang Shu and Zhou Shu, recording the speeches of emperors and officials of previous dynasties. Among them, ZhouShu is well preserved and detailed, and it is also the main research and translation object of this book.

Jacobs patience and determination can be seen from the notes of the book of Zhou. The number of annotations in ZhouShu is eye popping. In addition to interpreting words and analyzing grammar, both Li and ya feel that they shoulder the important task of popularizing science in ancient history.

Preface / Preface

The language of classic works is undoubtedly concise, beautiful and of aesthetic value. Shelleys sentence "If winter has come, will spring be far behind?" has made many desperate people rekindle the fire of hope and summon up their courage to meet the spring after the severe winter. Xu Zhimos sentence "I left quietly, just as I came quietly; I waved my sleeve and didnt take away a cloud" intoxicated many people. Nietzsches "God is dead" has given many people enlightenment. Reading classic works, especially original works, can improve your temperament, increase your knowledge, add talents, enrich your emotions and broaden your horizons. The so-called "classics" are actually the cultural accumulation of the nation to which the author belongs and the epitome of the soul of that nation. Shakespeares Hamlet and Macbeth, the great masters of English drama, Dantes Divine Comedy, hell, Purgatory and heaven, the father of Italian language, Ulysses and the portrait of an artist by Irish world writer James Joyce, and the works of American witty and superb novelist Mark Twain The adventures of Huck and Tom Sawyer, and so on, as well as the German philosopher Nietzsches Zarathustra and happy science They have made eternal contributions to shaping the cultural accumulation of their own nation, and at the same time, they have shown the world the beautiful silhouette of their nation. Many great figures, such as Lincoln and, have also drawn strength from classic works and even obtained the concept of governing the country. Charles Hill, a professor of Yale University, once wrote "classics and the concept of governing the country" He wrote: "in almost all classic works, we can find amazing and hidden artistic principles of governing the country." Classic works not only have the concept of governing the country, but also have the function of improving readers aesthetic taste. Classic works in different times and regions in the world have a common attribute: praising and praising the truth, goodness and beauty of the world, exposing and criticizing the hypocrisy, evil and ugliness of the world. Reading classic works since Dante, you will see that the west is always in a long dark period or in the period of modern process At the same time, more and more works have been published, praising the sincerity and kindness of the world, making readers involuntarily immersed in the aesthetic emotion of classical works. English classics are obviously a part of the vital cultural heritage in the whole process of mankind except Chinese classics. From the perspective of history In fact, English is an international language widely used in classic reading works all over the world. This fact has not fundamentally changed. This fact does not seem to have changed for quite a long time in this century. We should have a deeper understanding and feel the style of English classics and read authentic English classicsProduct process is obviously essential. Liaoning Peoples Publishing House timely and grandly launched the series of "classic English Library", which is a publishing act with foresight and insight. I believe that this set of English original classic works series, which can be read and has collection value, will not only help people understand what is classic works, but also become a "classic English Library" loved by the majority of English lovers, large and medium-sized students and students parents.
