-Thyme is an herbal spice in the mint family commonly used in cooking. It produces one of the most remarkable varieties of essential oils from the same species of plant. Thyme presents opportunities to tune production of an essential oil to suit a large variety of issues. There are 6 main chemotypes, another 3-4 rare types and even more nearly unique types from just this species.
-The oil of each chemotype can be radically different so much so that the aroma, benefits and hazards are not the same from one oil to another. Other chemotypes can be produced in different environments and other cultivation/production techniques. There are also over 300 species in the same family that are sold as “Thyme” and essential oils are produced from a few of these.
-Note: Multiple cautions for oral use. Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
-Caution: Thymol type may have drug interaction considerations. It may prevent blood from clotting. There is a low risk of skin sensitivity. Suggested to dilute this type to less than 1.3% if used on the skin. Essential oils can be harmful if used improperly. Information is provided for educational purposes only.
