The new 5800-series 105 pedal uses Shimanos proven SPD-SL cleat format, which is a great thing. Not only is engaging the pedals clipping mechanism easy, the SPD-SL cleats are optimized for stability while walking, so you dont have to do that awkward "duck on ice" clomp to get around when you roll up to the café. The pedals carbon composite body keeps weight down without compromising strength, and the stainless steel plate that acts as the interface between cleat and pedal isnt just strong, its extra wide for stability and great power transfer. The bearings are widely spaced along the stainless steel spindle for even bearing wear and distribution of load stress. The pedals cleat retention mechanism is easily adjustable with a small hex wrench.

The Shimano 105 PD-5800 Pedal comes in one color and weighs 285 grams per pair, not including cleats and additional hardware. Shimanos "yellow" SPD-SL cleats are included, which offer 3 degrees of float, but other cleats are available separately that offer more or less float, depending on rider preference.
