"Patricia hesmith, an American female writer, was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1921. When she was six years old, she moved to New York with her parents. She studied at Julia Richmond high school and Barnard womens College in New York. Her novel stranger on the train was adapted into a film by the great director Hitchcock in 1951. The genius Ripley, published in 1955, established its supreme position in genre literature. Readers were stunned to find that Ripley always wandered between light and darkness in this masterpiece and its subsequent sequels, experienced the test of "reading heaven and hell" in the "Infernal Affairs", went unpunished with the "criminal record", and committed new sins in the chain reaction thereafter."

Patricia hesmiths works are mainly crime novels and short stories. She lives all over the world and is far more popular than the United States. In his lifetime, hesmith won the French detective literature award, the Allan Poe award and the silver dagger award issued by the British Society of criminal writers for "genius Ripley" and "double faced door god"; In recent years, as critics continue to explore the connotation of her works, her reputation behind her is even higher than before. Patricia hesmith still topped the list of the 50 greatest crime writers selected by time magazine a few years ago.

"

"

Hesmith is good at writing about the abnormal psychological state of the characters, step by step, subtle and complex, the atmosphere is often like a dark cloud, and the definition of good and evil is often very different from other crime novels. The total amount of her works is small, but the unique style represented by the "Ripley series" has been highly praised by many pure literary masters, such as Graham green, Julian Simmons and Joyce Carlo Oates. At the same time, these novels have attracted many film practitioners with their strong sense of picture and shock. Major directors mingella, Wenders and film stars Alan Delong, markovich, Matt Damon and Jude Law are her loyal fans. The previous and subsequent versions of "Ripley films" created by them have become popular film history classics.

Teres, a young girl, pursues the dream of a stage designer in New York, but can only be a salesgirl in a department store. One day, she and Carol, a middle-aged housewife in a marriage crisis, met in a department store. The two people who attracted each other began to write back and forth, send messages by telegram, and even travel together by road. However, this was not allowed in the American society at that time. Trishs boyfriend thought she was just at a loss. Carols husband asked private detectives to investigate and collect evidence, hoping to leave Carol with nothing in the divorce proceedings. The time to test the two women has finally come. Can they break through social taboos and stick to a happy ending? How much are they willing to pay to protect this love?

"

"

Therese is just an ordinary sales assistant working in a New York department store when a beautiful, alluring woman in her thirties walks up to her counter. Standing there, Therese is wholly unprepared for the first shock of love. Therese is an awkward nineteen-year-old with a job she hates and a boyfriend she doesnt love; Carol is a sophisticated, bored suburban housewife in the throes of a divorce and a custody battle for her only daughter. As Therese becomes irresistibly drawn into Carols world, she soon realizes how much they both stand to lose...

"

First published pseudonymously in 1952 as The Price of Salt, Carol is a hauntingly atmospheric love story set against the backdrop of fifties New York.
