About the author:

E. M. foster (e. M. Forster, also known as E. M. Forster, 1879 ~ 1970), an English writer in the 20th century. His main works include the novel room with a view, Howard manor and so on.
Edward Morgan Foster was born in London and studied at Cambridge University. After graduation, he once traveled to Italy and Greece. After returning to the UK, he helped establish the independent review and became one of its main writers. In 1905, he published his first important novel, "where angels dare not set foot". Then he published the longest journey (1907), a room with a view (1908) and Howard Manor (1910). After two trips to India, he wrote a trip to India in 1924. Foster returned to Kings college, Cambridge University as an honorary researcher in 1946.
Character evaluation:

"In terms of aesthetic thought, foster has a strong blood relationship with Joyce and Wolf".(novel critic Bradbury)
Forster "regards the novel as a parasite that must draw nourishment from life. It can only describe life vividly to show reward, otherwise, the novel will perish".(a review of British writer Virginia Wolf)
Forsters Novels "fundamentally reflect a dilemma of modern civilization: the alienation and even conflict between material production and spiritual creation, the separation and even contradiction between the bourgeoisie and intellectuals".(comments by scholar Ruan Wei)
"Foster has profound and eternal insight. He never fears big problems and disdains to cover up his doubts or weaknesses with false words, so as to protect himself and comply with the trend of the times."(literary critic Arnold Kate)
"For me, foster is the only existing writer who can read repeatedly. Every time I read, he can give me a feeling of learning. Few writers give us such a feeling."(by Lionel Trilling, an American literary critic)

Content introduction:

The work describes the love story between Lucy and George. The story takes place in Italy. Lucy sisters and Georges father and son live in a hotel. Through a room with a view, they meet and fall in love. They have experienced many twists and turns because of the traditional British etiquette, which deeply reveals the arrogance and prejudice of the upper middle class in Britain.
With a beautiful love story, the novel praises the awakened womens brave pursuit and ardent longing for love and free life, which fully reflects the spiritual poverty of the British middle class at that time.
"A room with a view" is the most famous of Fosters "Italian novels", and it is also a widely circulated one of his works. In 1986, American director James avery put the novel on the screen, and the film won three American Oscars
Wit and intelligence are the hallmarks of this probing portrait of the English character. And in this story of extreme contrasts—in values, social class, and cultural perspectives—an unconventional romantic relationship leads to conventional happiness in a delightful social comedy.

While touring Italy with her overbearing cousin, well-bred Lucy Honeychurch falls in love with the handsome but entirely unsuitable George Emerson, only to become engaged to the haughty Cecil Vyse. But Lucy is lured away from the conventions of upper-middle-class Edwardian society by her yearnings for the clerk she left behind. A Room with a View satirizes the English notion of respectability—and remains Forster’s most beloved novel and a twentieth-century classic.
